I’m still reading through a recent book titled Herbal Antibiotics by Stephen Harrod Buhner. Off the top of your head can you recall the last time our government and “big pharma” has invested in the development of antibiotics? There has been a dire need for the development of the Covid-19 vaccines and medication which equals billions of dollars in profit. There are funds for antibiotic research but they are minuscule in comparison to the development of treatment for Covid-19.
About ten to fifteen years ago many physicians were handing out the Z-Pack - Azithromycin antibiotic to their patients. Today Z-Pack and other antibiotics, have contributed to the rise of antimicrobial resistance. WHO shortage of Antibiotics “43 antibiotics are currently in development and found that none address extensively or multidrug-resistant gram-negative bacteria and that novel drugs targeting WHO priority pathogens like carbapenem-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii and Pseudomonas aeruginosa are lacking.”
This is very concerning for our future as we will begin to see more and more antibiotic resistant bacteria. Private health insurance owns our physicians. Private insurance crafted the entire idea of telehealth visits with physicians you’ve never met and development of urgent care centers to eliminate the high costs of emergency room visits. “Here you go, here are some antibiotics to fix you right up.” - said by a physician you’ve never met before.
The problem insurance created is that patients have lost their medical relationship with their physicians. If you sprained an ankle, “oh, there’s a solution to that - go to urgent care. You have a urinary tract infection go to urgent care if you can’t get an appointment!” You don’t need to visit me because I’m directed by private insurance. For those individuals who have medicaid the healthcare service is even more damning. The patient/physician relationship is dead unless you’re the 1% who can obtain a physician to come to your home which is considered a luxury. So having the patient/relationship is important because they understand YOU and your BODY. It’s not the doctor you’ve never met who hands you antibiotics based on following their guidelines for treatment.
The Evolution of “Modern” Medicine is pretty accurate where we are presently. It is humorous and equally disturbing. All of our prescription medication is derived from plants but produced in synthetic “big pharma” labs. Additives, preservatives, all of the other toxins are added into medication too. I’m not going to lie and say no to my physician when I’m told I have an infection and I an need antibiotic for treatment. I am aware it will knock me down again by interfering with my gut biome. Yes, antibiotics completely destroy your gut and the solution always proposed is probiotics. Yogurt is an option but what if you’re dairy free? How long will it be until the next antibiotic becomes resistant to a specific bacteria? We should be looking for alternatives including holistic medicine but this area is suffering too because it is not regulated by the FDA. Essential oils falls into the category of holistic medicine. In the last year, my goal has been to remove toxins from our home. I have not eliminated all harmful toxins from my home yet. As a family we have a long way to go to remove every toxin under our kitchen sinks, in our older homes, and realistically some of it is impossible.
I wanted to share the quote below from Michael Schmidt because it just adds more fuel to this conversation. Agricultural pests have evolved, creating a bigger problem for farms and those on a holistic path. This creates further concerns for all of us in the future. All farms. Even the ones using organic pesticides. I’m worried and you should be too? What does the future look like for our children and their children?
As a consumer, you need to know where holistic products are sourced. Are farms taking the appropriate steps to address these issues? Sometimes this information is difficult to obtain however, at Young Living you can tour each and every farm they own. This is one excellent benefit of becoming a Young Living consumer. Know the source. The great news is Young Living who has been in business for over thirty years, sources from the farms they created thirty years ago and provides a list of all their farms in their consumer catalog. You can even request a tour.
Did you know breathing in essential oils is the fastest way for an essential oil to enter your bloodstream? We have diffusers at many price points. My personal favorite is the mini aria. It has meditation music built in and can connect to your phone by bluetooth! You can listen to a podcast or your own music while meditating. It was recently released in the YL holiday catalog. Mini Aria Diffuser Please contact me directly if you would like more information and I can also recommend other diffusers.
Many physicians disagree with the ingestion of essential oils. Young Living has an essential oil vitality line which is diluted down for ingestion and we always encourage our consumers to check with their physicians first.
Moderation is key and we have an extensive staff which provides education and reference. Pursuing additional education in aromatherapy and herbal medicine, which I have personally and I am still in the process of learning. I especially want to make sure the information I am providing is accurate and all potential side effects are addressed to consumers. Some essential oils could interact with a prescription medicine and I certainly would never want that to happen to anyone!
Always speak to your physician after a recommendation to make sure you can move forward with your wellness plan which could be as simple as a roller or a specific oil helping with arthritis, stress, anxiety, or even more complex issues in helping to address cancer (not a cure but as a supplement to treatment etc.
Back to this great book Herbal Antibiotic which I am continuing to read…as we continue to evolve on planet Earth we are going to have to develop natural and holistic approaches to address antibiotic resistant bacterias which continue to be problematic.
